The Saint Mary’s Chicago East book club met on February 22nd to discuss Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. This book was recently adapted into a highly acclaimed Hulu original series.

We all were able to try a slice of traditional black cake which we ordered from Camella’s Kitchen, a bakery founded by a mother and daughter duo hailing from Trinidad and Tobago. A black cake is a traditional Caribbean rum fruit cake. We all agreed that it was very good and fun to try the cake that the book was written around. Thank you to Caroline for hosting at us at her home!

Join us in reading our March book, The Arrangement by Robyn Harding. We will be meeting at an alumna’s house on March 20th. Please contact us if you would like to attend!
