Fourteen book club Belles gathered on February 11th to discuss our February BIPOC selection - ASSEMBLY by Natasha Brown.

One of our book club members, Rose '19, reached out to a SMC professor, Professor Anne Marie Short, who teaches Post Colonial Women's Writing. While Assembly is not currently on the course’s assigned reading list, it does appear on a list of books being considered.

At just 112 pages, ASSEMBLY was a shorter read and everyone was able to complete it in time for the book club meeting. Many of us were struck by how much Brown managed to pack into such a short book. It sparked deep reflection and meaningful conversation within the group. And there was excitement around exploring another of Brown’s works in the future--a mystery at a rave!

It was a great evening of discussion and some delicious food ahead of the Valentines day holiday. Thank you to Emily '18 for hosting and Rose '19 for leading the discussion!
